Youth DRIL Camp at the Alexandria Area YMCA
Is your child ready to move with confidence? Join us for the Youth DRIL Camp, a high-energy, 1.5-hour introductory movement class designed specifically for kids ages 8–12.
Led by certified instructor Lyssa Lovejoy, this camp combines fitness, coordination, and confidence-building in a fun, structured environment.
Whether your child is an aspiring athlete or just loves to stay active, they’ll learn how to master their body’s movement while having a blast with peers from across the Alexandria community.
Registration opens Feb. 1
What is DRIL?
DRIL stands for Direction, Rhythm, Intensity, and Level.
-
D (Direction): Moving quickly forward, backward, and side-to-side.
-
R (Rhythm): Coordinating movements to a beat, crucial for balance and timing.
-
I (Intensity): Teaching kids how to recognize "Easy," "Medium," and "Hard" effort so they don't burn out.
-
L (Level): Learning how to move high (jumping) and low (crouching) safely.
How This Benefits Your Child:
- Better Coordination: Helps kids feel less "clumsy" by syncing their brain and body.
- Injury Prevention: Teaches them how to land, jump, and change directions without getting hurt.
- Self-Control: By learning "Intensity," kids learn how to pace themselves during physical activity.
- Confidence: Small wins in our skill-building drills lead to a "can-do" attitude on the field or court.
