This is a part-time position. Available shifts are from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. or 4:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. weekdays or weekends. 

Red Cross or YMCA Lifeguard Certification will be provided upon training. 

POSITION SUMMARY:  

 As a Lifeguard at the YMCA, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our members and guests. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing supervision of the pool area.
  • Delivering a high-quality experience for children and parents.
  • Enforcing pool rules in a polite, courteous, fair, and consistent manner.
  • Upholding the YMCA's core values and commitment to safety.
  • Adhering to all YMCA policies, rules, regulations, and procedures, including emergency and safety protocols.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervises activities in the pool. 
  • Maintain a high level of preparedness and readiness to act in the event of an emergency. 
  • Enforces rules in a polite, courteous, and fair and consistent manner. 
  • Attends staff meetings and in-service trainings. 
  • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention and emergencies. 
  • Maintain a positive relation with members, non-members, and other staff. 
  • Models relationship-building skills (including Listen First) in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Red Cross certified lifeguard (or equivalent certification). 
  • Able to maintain scanning over long periods of time. 
  • At least 16 years of age. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills. 
  • Regular attendance and punctuality. 
  • Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire. 
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to walk, stand, and sit for long periods of time. 
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and bodily fluids. 
  • Must be able to lift equipment weighing up to 20 pounds or remove a victim from the water in the event of an emergency. 
  • Ability to stand or sit while maintaining alertness for several hours at a time. 
  • Position may require bending, leaning, kneeling, and walking.
  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate. 
  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

PAY:

  • $14.00 - $15.00 per hour
